The stage was set and played beautifully by our rather intelligent Assistant Manager.. a few choice words prior to kick off and the Mighty McTeagle boys were fired up and ready to teach the Burghmuir boys (top of the league no less) that we were NO WALK OVER.
Team still showing signs of injurys but at least this week we had 11 on the park and 2 subs. Right from the off it was going to be the dogs day, we were first to every ball and quite simply outplayed them in first 20mins with a few chances created that could have got us off the mark. Towards half hour mark we took foot of the gas and let Burghmuir press and the end result was a through ball from midfield and with a chasing Kev McKenzie into the box there was a slight clip of the heels and the striker went down. Frustrating but stone waller. Burghmuir striker stepped up and sent our Forbesy the wrong and went one up. McTeagle didnt do much till the half time whistle and we were glad to hear it in truth. Half time 0-1.
After a "fired" up chat during half time we went out and regained control of the game. McTeagle leveled the game with a well taken MIKE CHRISTIE header and away he went pumped up and letting the away fans know the game was back on.. (later Christies excitment would land in in the Ref's book for another reason). After the retake we didnt let up and the league leaders didnt know where to go and resulted in hoofing the long ball much to the upset of their #;;7 who just complained alot but we got the last laugh. Our constant pressure paid off when SIMON WERNICK, in spectacular fashion put us 2-1 to the good with a flying, diving header. Goke had the chance a few minutes later to seal the game but the burghmuir keeper and defence did well to keep him out. Forbes at the other end had very little to do during both halfs but when called upon on a couple of occasions the big guy showed he could get down when needed and kept us in match. Unfortunately the referee judged Tattie to nudge a burghmuir player with only few minutes left of the match and the attacker took full advantage and went down like a cheap hook which resulted in 2nd pen for the visitors. Forbes got fingers to it but not enough to keep out. Full time 2-2.
Extra time both team looked tired and a break away from Cowbag left the defence for dead and he played Silky in who tapped in for us to take lead again. However only seconds after the re-take a ball was floated in from the left and a burghmuir sub sneaked in to let ball bounce off him and level match.... Pens was our destiny it would seem.
First up was our Mr Consistant MIKE B and he stepped up and stuck in in with ease. Burghmuir's first taker also found the poke. SILKY took our secnd but keeper guessed right way and saved. The fans favourite Burghmuir #;;7 was to take their 2nd and booted well over the bar, however the drama wasnt to end.. Forbesy was punished for "moving" off his line so #;;7 had a re-take.. no matter tho, he put well over bar again. SIMON took our 3rd and again keeper was sent wrong way as was our Frobes for their 3rd. TATTIE took our 4th and is fast becoming a threat to MIKE B as he calmly slotted in with ease. The Burghmuir's 4th taker smashed his and Forbes pulled a fantastic save to send ball into sky. he was really rather calm as he allowed the ball to bounce again and again closer to the line before we told him to get his A**E up and stop it!.......... the last pen was to be taken by none other than DICKBOY.... with jeers from the opposition (cant kick a ball apparently.. well watch and learn boys as DICKBOY manage to bulge the net). Confident stride up, placed it and beat keeper easily.. the boys win and to be honest it was well, well deserved. The hero.. well doesnt matter really 2nd round here we come..
